Introduction
2026〉, 〈Part of me, apart from me, 2026〉가 대표적이다.
마주한 〈Part of me, apart from me, 2026〉는 검은 돌산을 연상시키는 조형적 형태를 취하면서도, 동시에 몸을 눕힐 수 있는 데이베드로 기능한다.

What is right, what is wrong? The criteria for right and wrong amid different norms form the basic frame of thinking as humans grow up and operate as their standard for judgment afterwards. The system of conventional ethics and beliefs, as well as society and culture that surround us, has shown the direction as to what should be accepted and what should be excluded; this accumulation has served as the foundation that supports individual perception. That standard, however, does not always remain fixed. Judgments, deemed as absolute in their own time and conditions, are minutely adjusted, rearranged, and reformed within changes, new perceptions, and expanded ways of life.
The artist heeds to this plasticity that inheres in the system of values. For him, who has for a long time experienced different cultures and ideas, beliefs are not so much immutable truths as a flexible structure which shelters the possibilities for suspicion and subversion, depending on the age and environment. At the same time, the attitude with which each standard is unwilling to interfere with another, instead of opting for a certain stance, constitutes an important method for him to structure his works. He brings the intangible system of values that surrounds us into space and reveals it through installation.
<Artificial Mercy, 2026> indicates the possibility that the value, which has been regarded as noble and absolute, may have perhaps been artificially constructed. Mercy here is not limited to meanings of goodwill in the ethical sense or salvation but is rather interpreted as the method of tolerance which operates on the basis of certain standards and judgments. This is not something naturally given but one structure that is chosen and formed. This work brings into space the dualistic system of value between good and evil, right and wrong, inclusion and exclusion, thereby reassessing the structure of judgment which we have accepted unquestioningly.
This awareness in the exhibition space is not restricted to individual works but developed in the way in which it organizes the entire space. Representative instances are <Among the Disappearing Lines, 2026>, the red Tibetan lambskin which fills Exhibition 1, <Where Will You Stand within the Gaze Looking at the World, 2026>, the monstrance located in the middle of it, and <Part of me, Apart from me, 2026>. The artist draws on religious concepts, which were deemed to be of a transcendent and absolute realm, to create tension in the audience’s system of values.
The monstrance, a sacred object in Catholicism, contains the consecrated host that is the real existence of Christ and thus has a transcendent and absolute meaning. However, the surface of this acrylic work reflects the audience, thereby showing how the symbol lies on the gaze and the bodily movement of the audience. This implies that an absolute standard may be shaken by the gaze of the individual.
<Part of me, Apart from me, 2026>, with a molded form reminiscent of a black mountain, functions as a daybed on which one may lean one’s body and sit. The action of lingering on it may be read either as rest or as idleness, which brings to light the point at which a symbol of the same status diverges into different values. The black that holds the light symbolizes sin and darkness at the same time as it reminds one of a state before any distinction and shows the ambiguity that precedes judgment.
<Among the Disappearing Lines, 2026>, located on a place where the audience directly steps and passes, materially obscures the symbolic standards. Lambs have served for a long time as the symbol of innocence and salvation in a religious context, but the lamb in this work is gradually transformed; neither is its meaning fixed any longer. The audience, walking on it unawares, is nonetheless already positioned upon its border.
<As is, 2026>, the book produced using the traditional French bookbinding, looks as though it has a completed form, but the traces recorded with an air erasable pen disappears with time. This repetitive structure of recording and erasing shows how even accumulated meanings may remain in an unfixed state. This is a reminder of how the values of the present may also be readily rewritten and erased.
This exhibition makes visible these crevices: it makes visible how the standards we strive to maintain stand on such unstable foundations. When values previously believed to be absolute are shaken, we are compelled to ask once again. With the attitude not of certainty but of constant query, this exhibition asks:
Where are you standing?

What we see shifts.
What we believe follows.
Where do we stand?
