히피한남 갤러리는 1월 10일부터 2월 7일까지 박성혜 개인전 <Me : The Cosmic Journey>를 개최합니다. 2025년 을사년을 맞아 뱀띠인 박성혜 작가의 개성이 돋보이는 초상화 시리즈와 강렬한 색채의 COSMO 풍경 연작을 만나보실 수 있습니다.
이번 전시 <Me: The Cosmic Journey>는 하나의 진실을 찾아 떠나는 우주 여행이자, 자신을 탐구하는 여정을 그려냅니다. 매혹적 색감과 독특한 세계관 속에서 을사년의 역동적인 에너지를 온전히 느끼며, 자기 발견의 순간들을 함께 경험해 보시기 바랍니다.

Hippie Hannam Gallery is delighted to present the solo exhibition <Me: The Cosmic Journey> by Sung Hye Park from January 10 to February 7, 2025.
In celebration of the Year of the Snake (2025), Sung Hye Park, born in the Year of the Snake, will present portraits series that showcase her unique style, as well as the COSMO series with vivid colors.
<Me: The Cosmic Journey> is an exploration of a journey into space to find a truth, as well as a path of self-discovery. Through intense colors and a unique artist's view, the exhibition invites visitors to experience the dynamic energy of the Year of the Snake and join in the journey of personal exploration.

Me : The Cosmic Journey _ 박성혜 개인전 | Sung Hye Park Solo Exhibition

박성혜 작가(b.1989)는 진실에 대한 탐구를 우주라는 매개를 통해 표현하는 작가이다. 그녀는 “진실”은 궁극적으로 하나였으나, 시간이 지나가면서 외부적인 요소 등으로 인해 더 이상 “하나”가 아닌 진실은 여러 형태로 쪼개지어 해석 된다고 생각한다. 특히 종교의 역사의 흐름을 보면 우리는 “하나의 진실”이 분해되는 과정을 이해할 수 있다. 분명 하 나의 뿌리를 가진 천주교, 기독교, 유대인, 이슬람교 등, 시작은 똑같았음에도 불구하고 시간이 지나며 믿는 방법, 섬기 는 메시아 등 많은 것들이 다르다는 것을 우리는 알 수 있다. 이 처럼 종교의 역사를 보더라도, “하나”였던 것이 “무한” 한 모습으로 변화하다 못해, 충돌까지 유발하는 지경에 이르게 된다. 그녀는 한가지 진실(single truth)은 존재한다고 믿고 있으며, 이 궁극적인 하나의 진실의 형태의 시작은 인류에게 아직 미지의 세계인 우주의 원리와 비슷하다고 느껴, “우주의 탄생”에서 영감을 받아 진실을 표현하는 작업을 하게 되었다. 그녀는 다양한 모습으로 분해된 진실을 모아 한 가지의 진실로 향해 나아가는 과정을 그리며 결국에는 통일된 하나의 진실을 꿈꾼다. 그러나 그녀는 인류는 하나의 진 실에 도달하는 일이 쉽지 않음을, 그렇기에 인류는 항상 충돌함을 안다. 그럼에도 불구하고 인류가 진실에 다가 가기 위해 노력한다면 서로를 조금 더 이해할 수 있을 것이라는 희망을 가진다. 그녀는 하나의 진실을 찾아가는 과정을 우주 여행“The cosmic journey”라고 부르며, 진실을 찾는 우주 여행이 마치 자기 자신을 찾으려는 모습이 겹쳐 보여 이번 전시 제목을 “Me : The Cosmic Journey” 라고 짓게 되었다. 여기서 그녀의 자화상 작품 이야기가 시작된다. 박성혜 작가는 어렸을 때부터 꿈이 화가가 되는 것이었다. 그러나 꿈과 달리, 서울대학교 영어영문학과를 졸업하여 일반 회사원으로 8년 동안 생활하였다. 회사 생활은 그녀를 불행하게 만들었지만, 회사를 쉽게 관둘 수도 없었다. 왜냐 하면 자기가 인생에서 성취했던 모든 것이 헛되게 될까 두려웠다고 한다. 그러나 시간이 지나갈 수록 그녀는 자기가 진 정으로 원하는 것을 외면 할 수 없게 되었고, 결국 퇴근 후 작업실에 가서 그림을 그리게 되었다고 한다. 처음에는 꽃, 사물 등 간단한 그림을 연습하다가, 몇 달 후에는 여성의 초상화를 반복적으로 그리게 되었다고 한다. 주로 그 여성들 은 미디어에서 본 성공한, 아름다운 여성을 기반으로 그렸다. 그러나 어느 순간부터 이 초상화들은 무의식적으로 “그 녀”와 닮았다는 것을 알게 되었다고 한다. 그녀는 본인이 되고 싶어하는 모습을 계속 그린다는 것을 깨닫고 용기를 내 어 회사를 퇴사하고 자기가 원하던 전업 작가로 활동을 시작했다고 한다. 그리하여 작가한테 있어서, 자화상을 그리는 것은 자기 자신을 찾는 행위이며, 이 과정은 마치 우주 속에서 종이배를 타고 하나의 진실을 찾으려는 모습하고 겹친다 고 생각하여 “Me: The Cosmic Journey”로 하게 되었다고 한다. 진정한 “나”를 찾는 것 광활한 우주 속에서 하나의 진실을 찾는 것 만큼 어렵고 대단한 일이라고 작가는 생각한다.

Sung Hye Park (b.1989) is an artist who deliberately uses cosmos as her medium to explore the nature of truth. She believes that “truth” started out as a singular form and through time has been disintegrated into innumerable shapes. For instance, when one traces the origins of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, one realizes that it leads to one single God. However, through course of history, this one divine God has birthed many religions that hold on to different traditions and worship different messiahs from one another. The artist looking at this phenomenon realized that one “single truth” exists not in singular form, but in infinite shapes. Hence, leading her to believe that we can never know what the real single truth is, as it is dismantled into pieces. She felt that the unknowing qualities of truth were similar to that of the mysterious universe, thus choosing birth of cosmos as her medium to explore her art world. In her works, she tries to gather the dissembled truth and merge it into its original singular form. However she knows very well that the journey for humanity to arrive at one definitive truth is impossible. Nevertheless, she believes that humanity’s efforts to reach towards one single truth will help understand each other’s differences. Although reaching unity in truth is impossible, she finds meaning in the efforts to discover the single truth. Sung Hye Park has graduated Seoul National University with a bachelor’s degree in English literature. After getting her artwork accepted at Indépendants 2019 Korea, she has been painting ever since. She has left her corporate job and is currently pursuing work as a full-time artist.
